The making of Ginger Beer
I was asked this week, "Do I make my ginger beer from scratch? Well, I do! I remembered my mother doing it, so it is natural to me. I don't put the bottle in the sun, as she did, but it is almost as good. I do add vodka or rum, to make it into an afternoon cocktail.
3 lbs Ginger Root, cleaned, peeled, grated
8 qts water, boling
3 T yeast
2T cream of tartar
2 limes, rind, juiced
3 C sweetener/ sugar
Cloves
Add ginger to boiling water. Add cream of tartar, juice and zest. Cover but stir frenquently.
When lukewarm, add yeast cover let stand 6 hours. Stir
Sweeten, bottle and add 2-3 cloves to each bottle, refrigerate. Will keep for 4 days.
The addition of rum will preserve it longer.

Weight loss success
I always get the comment, "how do you stay so slim around all this food?"I really don't know. Sometimes. success comes with manageable, simple choices. Drink water instead of soda. Season your food with herbs and spices, don't be a Paula (butter) Dean. Eat regular meals, heaviest at breakfast and lunch.
You might have to change your lifestyle, to include daily exercise, meditation, and put more veggies in your diet. These choices can make a powerful difference, in your goal towards healthful living.
Take your salad dressing for example, instead of buying a store brand, make your own. When making a family salad, pour part of dressing in the bowl, and not directly on salad. Doing so, makes the salad soggy. Scoop greens over dressing and toss. Add more dressing as needed, or serve some dressing on the side.
Remember, it's not all or nothing. The more you do, the more benefit you'll experience.
Try reducing fat intake by switching to nonfat mayo or yogurt in sandwiches and salads. Increase your consumption of grains and legumes by eating soups. Beans are a good source of fiber and protein; they have no cholesterol and are low in total fat.

Heard in the News!
I do have to set the mood, that is, in order to write regularly. I have to write simple.
So, do you know my favorite food store? Aldi of course, and this is not a paid endorsement.
Just that I picked up some great fruits, at their low prices on Sunday.
Great to go bike riding at 8:30AM, return at 10, and shop. Everything is fresh and well stocked. Only draw back, I am finished by 10:30 and can't get wine.
I was not happy at the Winter Park Farmers Market Saturday. Product selection was low, as vendor take their vacations.
In the news, don't drink your calories, eat them. Solid food, like oranges, provides greater eating satisfaction, often with fewer calories than drinking orange juice. No time to peel? Take one of my classes on peeling and juicing!
See ya!
